Our client was involved in a serious road traffic accident while driving in the evening. At the time, their vehicle was passing through a set of traffic lights when another car collided with the right-hand side at an estimated speed of 40mph.
The impact was forceful, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle, which was eventually declared a total loss. The collision threw our client to the left side of the car.
As a result of the accident, our client sustained the following injuries:
- neck symptoms lasting around five weeks
- back symptoms lasting five weeks
- knee symptoms lasting one week
- shock for three days
- specific isolated phobia related to driving and being a passenger in a car, presenting with hyper alertness and avoidance behaviours. These symptoms were mild to moderate but persisted beyond the initial recovery period.
The accident also exacerbated a pre-existing history of Mixed Anxiety and Depressive Disorder, which deteriorated from mild to moderate for approximately six months before returning to baseline.
How we helped our client
We obtained reports from a General Practitioner and a Consultant Psychiatrist regarding our clients’ injuries and anticipated recovery, along with any recommendations for future treatment.
We arranged Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) to aid our client’s recovery.
Settlement
After obtaining expert medical evidence and negotiating with the insurer, the claim was settled for £6,800. Our client was satisfied with the outcome and the early resolution.
