Circumstances of claim
Our client, Susan, was working as a shop assistant in a store. The area where the store was situated had experienced high levels of crime. There had been several robberies at the store. Susan was working at one of the check-outs in the store, when there was a robbery and as a result, Susan suffered from psychological injuries.
How we helped Susan
We notified a claim to her employer. Their insurers denied liability saying they had no responsibility for the robbery. We commissioned a report from a crime prevention expert and were able to show that the measures taken by Susan’s employer to protect her at work were inadequate. We also obtained a report from a psychologist. We thereafter raised a court action. We progressed the court action until close to the final hearing, where her employer’s insurers agreed to settle the claim. The updated value of the agreed compensation is approximately £15,000.
