Circumstances of claim
We were instructed by our client, after an accident at work. Our Client at the time of the accident was working on an oil platform in the North Sea.
He was returning to the platform after home leave. He disembarked from a helicopter onto the platform. He tripped and fell over a metal bar close to where the helicopter landed. He suffered a knee injury as a result.
How we helped our client
We notified the claim to his employer BP. We argued the landing site was unsafe and broke the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
After investigating the claim, the insurers acting for our client’s employers responded to us to confirm that they accepted the metal bar was a tripping hazard since it was placed so close to the helicopter landing spot.
They agreed to compensate our client. We then instructed an orthopaedic consultant to examine our client and prepare a medical report based on his injuries sustained and his likely recovery period.
Legal Action and Settlement
After sending a copy of the medical report to the third-party insurers, we successfully negotiated a settlement for our client.
