Circumstances of claim
At the time of the incident, Fiona was living in a house rented through a Housing Association. Her landlords instructed renovations to be carried out at the house which was relaying the surface of the patio at the rear of the house.
The paving stones had been poorly laid, resulting in an uneven surface. Whilst walking on the patio, Fiona tripped and suffered an injury to the ligaments of her left ankle. She also suffered secondary depression.
How we helped Fiona
A claim was notified to her landlords. Liability was accepted. We instructed reports from an orthopaedic doctor and psychiatrist. The claim could not be settled out of court. We therefore raised a court action on Fiona’s behalf and ultimately settled her claim in the sum of £35,000.
