Our client was ten years old when he was injured in a road traffic accident.
He was a restrained back seat passenger in a taxi travelling to school when it was involved in a collision with a tractor.
He suffered multiple injuries, including a severe traumatic brain injury, as well as bilateral lower limb and spinal fractures. He required emergency neurosurgery to elevate a depressed skull fracture with the insertion of an intracranial pressure bolt.
As a result of the brain injury, our client was left unable to cope with any form of independent day to day living. He requires constant and continuing supervision, which will continue for the rest of his life. He is incapable of any meaningful employment.
Court proceedings were raised in this case and eventually settled on the morning on the first day of a 10 day Diet of Proof. The case took nine years to get to court. Throughout that time we assisted our client and his family by arranging care, therapy and rehabilitation for him. A huge number of expert witnesses were instructed, including epileptologists, consultants in rehabilitation medicine, occupational therapists, case managers, care experts, employment consultants, actuaries and architects. A significant element of the damages related to future care.
The case eventually settled in the sum of £8,500,000.
