Scarring and facial disfigurement injuries can arise from a wide variety of circumstances. Most commonly, they occur after suffering lacerations or burns. They can leave injured persons with a significant risk of permanent scarring and some form of facial or other body disfigurement.

The depth and size of the laceration will influence the permanence of the scar together with the recovery and treatment process. In cases where significant lacerations are suffered, it is always recommended that hospital and medical treatment is sought in the first instance. Specialist treatment can be obtained which can greatly help with the recovery process, often leaving persons with reduced scarring.

The severity of any facial disfigurement will often depend on the type and severity of the initial injury. Seeking the appropriate medical care and treatment is key to reducing long-term damage.

If you have suffered scarring or facial disfigurement as a result of an accident that has happened in the last 3 years, and wasn’t your fault, then we may be able to assist and help you claim for your permanent disfigurement or scarring compensation.

Throughout the process of the claim, you will likely be required to consult with a Consultant Plastic Surgeon. The Consultant will prepare a report to detail your injury and subsequent prognosis. They will also identify whether any skin grafts or scar tissue is necessary. It may be the case that your clinical treating consultant has already identified this.

The cost of any treatment can be recovered privately if an admission of liability is made. This means that if you require any private treatment to assist with your disfigurement injury, this can be instructed and undertaken privately and a lot sooner than when the NHS may be able to offer. Skin grafts are often necessary where there have been extensive injuries involving major lacerations and serious tissue damage.

Other forms of disfigurement, and perhaps less common, can arise from amputation of fingers, toes, or limbsSevere fractures that require extensive surgery and metal work can also result in permanent disfigurement and scarring.

Whilst the physical pain associated with disfigurement is often easily identifiable, the often-hidden psychological impact of suffering such an injury should also be explored.
