NHS Scotland statistics suggest that a number of people suffering severe and complex burn injuries has reduced in recent years, and as a result, there are now under 500 patients (adults and children) admitted to a specialist busns ward in Scotland each year. Burns are assessed by how seriously the skin is damaged and whuch layers of the skin are affected. This can range from a superficial burn where only the outer layer can be damaged through to a full thickness burn where all three layers of the skin are damaged and destroyed. It is important for any burn that you seek appropriate medical attention.
