In the serious injuries team we assist clients who have been the victims of life changing events. We are experts in navigating what can often be the most challenging period a person might ever face. We are able to assist with all aspects of the process and will ensure you feel fully supported throughout the claim by our experienced team.

If you have suffered a catastrophic injury, then Calio Claims can help you claim compensation in order to assist you in your life going forward.

What is a serious injury?

A serious injury claim can cover a wide range of injuries, such as spinal and back injuries, amputations and head and brain injuries. These will be injuries which have a long-term severe impact on not only the individual who has suffered the injury but also their families’ lives.

I have been in an accident, and have suffered a serious injury, how do I go about making a claim?

Whilst bringing a claim may seem daunting, our team will guide you through the whole process. After you contact us, we will take a detailed statement from you and we will begin to gather information regarding the accident circumstances and your losses. We will then intimate your claim to the person considered to be at fault.

We will arrange an appointment with a suitably qualified medical expert who will review your records and examine you. They will then produce a medical report allowing us to detail the injuries you have suffered and the prognosis for those injuries.

We will also put you in touch with our various rehabilitation providers to assist with your recovery. This can include physical and psychological treatment, depending on your injuries. We would encourage you to keep all vouching for any treatment costs, care costs and costs of medication as we can include this in your claim.

How much compensation should I expect?

Compensation for serious injuries generally attracts higher compensation than most other types of injury. This is because the compensation will not just include an award for the injury itself but also other associated costs such as future loss of earnings, home modifications, care packages and rehabilitation.

We will investigate all aspects of your claim to understand what impact the injury has had on your life and ensure we get you the best settlement in order to allow you to move on with your life.

How long will my claim take?

Typically, these claims can take longer than other claims as it may not be initially clear what all of the heads of claim are until the injuries have settled into their permanent state. For example, we can assist you with putting in place rehabilitation, care packages and arranging adaptations to your home to assist you with leading your life to the fullest going forward. However, we will ensure matters are progressed as quickly as possible to bring matters to a successful conclusion. We can also seek interim payments to assist you while the case is ongoing.

Are there any time limits regarding making a claim?

In Scotland, you have three years from the date of the accident to bring your claim. It is therefore essential that you get in touch with one of our team as soon as possible.

How much will it cost to make a claim?

We have a variety of funding packages available. Following an initial investigation, we are able to accept many cases on a “no win no fee” basis which means that you will not need to pay for the work undertaken as the case progresses. If we are unable to negotiate settlement of your claim with the other side, then it may be necessary for us to raise court proceedings on your behalf. In those circumstances we can provide competitive After the Event Insurance cover which protects you from any award of expenses in the event that your claim is unsuccessful.
